Moyle Rovers Club Notes - 22nd May 2017   23/05/2017

Moyle Rovers senior ladies travelled to Templemore on Tuesday evening in their third game of the championship. Both sides threw themselves wholeheartedly into the contest and what a contest it turned out to be. We were treated to a great game of football that fell Moyle Rovers way at the end. Templemore opened the scoring with a point and we opened our account with a Megan Shanahan point. Roisin McGrath was next to score followed by Evrena Everard and Gillian O’Brien. Templemore had plenty of attacks but their shooting let them down before they found the net to level up. An Evrena Everard free gave us the half time advantage. 0-5 to 1-1.

Scores were hard to come by as the game flowed up and down the field. There was very little to separate the side’s right throughout the game. The sides were level coming up to  full time and Megan Shanahan scored the winner in injury time to gain the valuable points for a never say die Moyle Rovers side.

Final score Moyle Rovers 0-9 Templemore 1-5.

Team - Claire Moore, Shania Dowling, Barbara Ryan, Emma Cronin, Aoife Power, Niamh Lonergan, Orla Burke, Deirbhile Fitzgerald, Gillian O’Brien (0-3,1f), Jenny Everard, Aine Fitzgerald, Evrena Everard (0-2,1f), Yvonne Dwyer, Roisin McGrath (0-2), Megan Shanahan (0-2)

Subs used - Bronagh McGrath, Hazel Shanahan.

Panel - Rachael Delahunty, Sinead Heffernan, Amy Norris.

The juniors played host to Lattin in Monroe on Thursday evening. We got off to a great start thanks to two goals from Michelle McMeel and were in the lead at the break by 3-2 to 2-4. We started the second half brightly but were unable to convert scoring chances or close in frees. Two points was a poor return for the possession enjoyed. Lattin then came strongly into the game taking their chances well. They scored three goals and four points to close out the game. Final score 5-8 to 3-4.

Congratulations to Kirsty Crotty Ryan who won the coveted Sports person of the year award at Loreto secondary school.
