Moyle Rovers Club Notes - 3rd July 2017   05/07/2017

The seniors travelled to Lattin on Monday evening, June 26th, to play Aherlow in a crunch tie to stay in contention for the play offs for the County title. On a very wet miserable night our girls played their hearts out and secured a valuable draw to keep our chances alive before our final group game against Cappawhite. Aherlow started well and had the opening score before Jenny Everard opened our account with a point. Sarah Everard followed up with a pointed free. Aherlow resumed their dominance and established a two point lead. Our girls responded well and both sides were level at half time on 0-4 each, our points from play from Gillian O’Brien and Aine Fitzgearld. Moyle Rovers lost a player to the sin bin just before half time and they were kept very busy for the opening period of the second half as Aherlow tried to exploit the numerical advantage. Our backs defended very well and the game was close all through. With five minutes to go Gillian O’Brien chased down and won a seemingly impossible ball. The subsequent play set up the goal chance with Jenny Everard planting the ball into the back of the net. A further point from Yvonne Dwyer gave Moyle Rovers a four point cushion as the game approached full time. Aherlow to their credit refused to accept defeat and Brid Condon responded with a goal and they followed up with a point to level matters. A draw was a fair result in the difficult conditions. Both teams served up a really good sporting game, especially in the second half, and it would have been harsh on either side to loose. Moyle Rovers meet Cappawhite in their final game. Final Score 1-8 each.

Team; Rachael Delahunty, Tina Mulcahy, Shania Dowling, Michelle Cronin, Barbara Ryan, Aoife Power, Bronagh McGrath, Gillian O’Brien (0-4, 2f), Derbhile Fitzgerald, Yvonne Dwyer (0-1), Aine Fitzgearld (0-1), Cora Maher, Emma Cronin, Sarah Everard (0-1f), Jenny Everard (1-1).

Sub; Orla Burke for Bronagh McGrath.

Reserves; Sinead Kenrick, Caroline Quirke, Ellen Buckley.

The Juniors played round five of the championship at home against Moyne Templetuohy. Our back line Emma Bates, Sarah McDermott and Michelle Cronin worked hard and linked up with the half backs Robyn Tynan, Tina Mulcahy and Lucy Holohan who did super defensive work. At mid field Madeline Ahearne and Eve Ryan covered huge ground for the hour delivering ball to our forwards where Sinead Kenrick, Sinead Heffernan, Alannah Dowling, Rowena Dowling, Caroline Quirke and Sarah O’Connor worked tirelessly all through. On the day Moyne Templetuohy came out deserved winners but super credit to our players for their commitment to training and making themselves available for matches - well done girls.
