Templemore Finish Strongest To Claim Intermediate Championship

A cracking finish to cracking weekend of Ladies Football is how best to sum up this encounter between near neighbours Thurles Sarsfields and Templemore as the brought the curtain on five County Final fixtures played between Saturday September 28th and Sunday September 29th.
Templemore got the game off to a dream start knocking in three goals in the opening twelve minutes. Two goals from Aine Delaney and who turned provider in the creation of the third goal, passing to the waiting Ruth Butler who made no mistake adding the goal to her earlier point. Sarsfields Sarah McKevitt steadied the ship with four pointed frees. Still Templemore drove on this time it was Louise Caddell who first pointed and then found the net to register their fourth goal in the opening half this was quickly followed with a point by Katie Bourke. However on the approach to half time Eimear McGrath breached the Templemore defence goaling for Sarsfields to register their first goal at a crucial time. Two more points in stoppage time from McKevitt saw Sarsfields narrow the deficit to just four points. The half time score was Templemore 4-4 Thurles Sarsfields 1-9.
On the resumption Templemore registered four points one each from Elaine Fitzpatrick and Aine Delaney and 0-2 from Ruth Butler before Sarah Kevitt pulled one back for Sarsfields Aoife McGrath adding her name to the score sheet. Templemore responding with two points in quick succession from substitute Neasa Towey. A nail biting finish ensued as the play was now concentrated in the Templemore end. With just three minutes of ordinary time left Sarah McKevitt stepped up take another free, the Sarsfields player saw her opportunity blasting the ball along the ground and deceiving goalkeeper Amy Doran. Less than a minute later Jennifer Irwin added Sarsfield’s third goal and again Sarah McKevitt was on hand to point. The score now stood at Templemore 4-11 Sarsfields 3-12 and just one minute of ordinary time remained. McKevitt narrowed the gap further still with another pointed free in the third minute of stoppage time. The minimum separated the sides as Aoife McGrath launched another attack on Templemore this time her effort went wide and when Templemore’s Kate Cashman pointed at the opposite end their victory was sealed. The final score Templemore 4-12 Templemore 3-13. An exciting end to an exciting weekend. Player of the match was awarded to Kate Cashman
