Tipperary made the long trip to Healy Park in Omagh  on Sunday last  for round two of the LIDL National Ladies Football League Division 2 to play Tyrone.
Boosted by a good win in round one away to  Cavan, Tipperary travelled with great hope and expectation. However, the single-point defeat was very disappointing.
Playing into a very strong wind in the first half, Tipperary adapted to the conditions and were much the better side early on.
Points  from Angela McGuigan in the first minute, followed by further scores from Aishling Moloney on nine  minutes, Emma Morrissey from play after ten minutes and Emer McCarthy  from play after 13 minutes, gave Tipperary a four-point lead.
Tyrone responded with two points from the very lively  Chloe Mc Caffrey and a further point from  Emma Jane Gervin on 17 minutes.
This left the minimum between the sides and Tipp rallied  to finish the half very well.
An Aishling Moloney point on 20 minutes and an Emma Morrissey free just before the break put Tipperary ahead again.
However, an intercepted goal kick led to a long, high ball sailing into the net and the half time score was  Tyrone 1-3 Tipperary 0-6.
Tipperary started the second half very brightly with a converted  Emma Morrissey free after two minutes, closely followed by two points from Nessa Towey in the ninth and 14th minutes to put them in the ascendancy.
In reality, the game should have been over at this stage, as Tipperary missed at least three gilt-edged goal chances, which they were to rue later  in the match.
Tyrone seemed to get energy from the Tipperary misses and they  scored the final three points of the game.
Tipp failed to score after the 14th minute of the second half  and will also regret  some missed frees and three wides in each half.
Having failed to score after the eighth minute of the second half in the previous week’s game against Cavan, albeit in poor weather conditions,  this is an aspect   of their game that they will have to improve.
Tipperary will also feel hard done by, especially with  the last two Tyrone points  from two frees,  which were awarded in very central positions in front of the goal.
In reality, Tipperary had the winning this game and will need to learn lessons very quickly if they are to remain in contention for promotion from this division.
Ciara Dwan in goal replaced the injured Lauren Fitzpatrick and can be proud of her first outing, as can defenders Lucy Spillane and Emma Cronin, along with captain Maria Curley.
Anna Rose Kennedy performed very well in the first half and upfront Aishling Moloney was always a threat, despite being treble- marked at  various stages.
Tipperary’s next outing  is away to Laois this Sunday in Crettyard, and they  will be hoping to bounce back from this disappointing result.
