March 23, 2025 | Venue: Lifford
Tipperary Ladies made the long journey to Donegal for Round 6 of the Lidl LGFA National Football League Division 2, but despite a battling performance, they came up just short against a sharp-shooting Donegal side who claimed a narrow 0-10 to 0-7 victory.
First Half: Evenly Matched Contest
The opening half was a tight affair, with both teams trading points consistently. Tipperary got off the mark through Aisling Moloney, who was instrumental throughout the match. She slotted over a point from play just 26 seconds into the game and followed up with another from a free at 18:05. Anna Rose Kennedy and Aisling added further scores to keep Tipperary in the hunt with the aid of a strong breeze.
Donegal responded strongly with Susanne White proving clinical from frees, converting multiple chances. Eva Gallagher and Cait Gillespie also got in on the scoring, ensuring Donegal matched Tipp score for score. At the break, the sides were deadlocked at 0-4 apiece.
Second Half: Donegal Edges Ahead
Donegal edged ahead in the second half thanks to continued accuracy with the aid of a strong breeze, from Susanne White and a brace of points from Aishling O’Neill. Tipperary, for their part, continued to fight hard, with Ava Fennessy and Aisling Moloney again finding the target. Moloney remained Tipp's most reliable scorer, knocking over another free late in the half.
However, Donegal’s ability to create and convert scoring chances in key moments proved the difference. Jodie McFadden, Cait Gillespie, and substitute Tara Rose Mahon all played their part in keeping the scoreboard ticking over.
Discipline and Substitutions
The match saw its share of physicality, with yellow cards handed out to Tipperary’s Anna Rose Kennedy and Caitlin Kennedy, and Donegal’s Roisin Rodgers. Both managers made strategic substitutions throughout the match, with Tipp introducing the likes of Caoimhe Condon and Laura Morrissey in an effort to shift momentum.
Final Whistle
Despite a committed and resilient performance from Tipperary, Donegal held their nerve to see out the game and secure the win on home turf. Tipperary’s effort and intensity were admirable given the long journey north, but Donegal's consistency in front of the posts proved to be the decisive factor.
Scorers for Tipperary:
Aisling Moloney (0-4, 3f), Ava Fennessy (0-2), Anna Rose Kennedy (0-1)
Scorers for Donegal:
Susanne White (0-5, 2f), Aishling O'Neill (0-1), Cait Gillespie (0-1), Eva Gallagher (0-1), Jodie McFadden (0-1, f), Feena McManamon (0-1)
Tipperary will now look to bounce back in their next fixture as they continue their campaign to push to retain their NFL Div 2 status.
