Fethard Crowned U21 Division 1 Champions with Commanding Win Over Templemore

Fethard captured the TLGFA U21 Division 1 League title in emphatic style on Saturday evening with a comprehensive 3-14 to 1-9 victory over a determined but outgunned Templemore side.

From the opening throw-in, Fethard asserted themselves as the more clinical and composed team, showcasing accuracy, teamwork, and a potent attacking threat that Templemore struggled to contain.

First Half Dominance

Fethard set the tempo early, with points from Mia Lacy, Heather Spillane, Aine Connolly, and Kate Burke all contributing to a solid opening spell. Their first major blow came in the 16th minute, when Jess Gleeson slotted home a goal to put real distance between the sides.

Despite a few wides, Templemore responded through Molly Nevin and Danielle Ryan, but their scoring chances were limited. Faye Lavin and Heather Spillane were particularly effective for Fethard in the closing stages of the half, as they stretched their lead to a commanding 1-10 to 0-4 at the interval.

Second Half Surge

Fethard wasted no time extending their advantage in the second half. A quickfire goal from Lavin, followed by a penalty converted at the 33rd minute, put the result beyond doubt. Spillane continued her fine form, adding points from play and frees.

Templemore showed resilience, notching a goal of their own midway through the half and adding several points through Kate Nevin, Julie Grey, and Molly Nevin. However, it was not enough to bridge the gap as Fethard’s backline held firm and their forwards kept the scoreboard ticking.

Despite some strong individual efforts from Templemore, Fethard’s cohesive play and spread of scorers ultimately proved too much.
