Date: 25th May 2024

Competition: TLGFA Oriel Magnesium U17 Division 2 League Final

Slieve Felim Rapparees secured the U17 Division 2 League crown in a nail-biting final against Galtee Rovers St. Pecauns, edging out their opponents by two points in a game dominated by excellent point-taking and tight defending.

The final, held on May 25th, saw a standout performance from Slieve Felim’s Molly Carr, who contributed an incredible seven points, five of which came from placed balls. Her accuracy and composure under pressure proved vital in a game where goals were scarce but intensity was high.

Slieve Felim opened strongly, with Carr registering the first of her scores as early as the 4th minute. She was joined on the scoreboard by Emma Corbett, who chipped in with three points from play, and Anna Kennedy, who also slotted a free. The Rapparees built a solid rhythm, going into halftime with a slender four-point lead: 0-05 to 0-01

Galtee Rovers kept themselves firmly in the contest through a spirited first-half display. A brilliantly taken goal by their number 12 midway through the half turned the tide temporarily, and a flurry of points from the same player, along with contributions from their number 6 and 14, brought the sides level briefly.

However, the resilience of the Rapparees shone through in the second half. While neither side scored after the break — the scoreboard remaining frozen from halftime — it was Slieve Felim's defense that ultimately saw them over the line, absorbing late pressure and forcing Galtee Rovers into difficult shooting positions.

This hard-fought win caps off a successful campaign for Slieve Felim Rapparees, who were composed in possession and clinical when it mattered most. For Galtee Rovers, there will be disappointment, but also pride in pushing the champions to the very limit.
