In a dramatic and hard-fought encounter, Templemore claimed back to back TLGFA Oriel Magnesium U17 Division 1 League titles
with a narrow 2-11 to 2-8 victory over Clonmel Commercials. With both teams tied at 1-5 (8) at halftime, the match lived up to expectations and delivered a memorable finish.
The first half was a tightly contested affair. Templemore’s early goal from Julie Grey and a series of points by Jennifer Marnell and Katie Bergin were matched by strong scoring from Clonmel’s Rebecca Hewitt and Faye Keague. A well-taken goal by Hewitt gave Clonmel the momentum mid-way through the first half, but Templemore responded through consistent pressure and frees converted by Marnell.
Templemore’s Lucy Rabbitt received a yellow card late in the first half, but her teammates dug deep to keep the sides level at the break.
The second half began with a surge from Templemore. Katie Bergin lit up the scoreboard with a critical goal in the 48th minute, and she followed it up with a point minutes later. Kate Nevin and Julie Grey added to the tally with important scores, while Clonmel responded with a goal of their own through a sharp finish from open play.
Despite several wides from both sides under pressure, it was Templemore who held their nerve. Grey led the scoring charge, finishing the game with 1-2 from play, while Marnell and Nevin also contributed crucial points. Clonmel’s late push, including a final point at the 60-minute mark, wasn’t enough to overturn Templemore’s lead.
Templemore’s defensive unit stood firm in the dying minutes, sealing a deserved three-point victory. The game was a showcase of young talent and determination, with standout performances across the pitch.
