Borrisokane Gaels claimed their first-ever adult championship title with a hard-fought win over Rockvale in the Junior D LGFA County Final, in what was an entertaining encounter despite the final scoreline suggesting otherwise.

The opening half was a tightly contested affair, with both sides showing nerves and determination in equal measure. Rockvale were well organised and matched Borrisokane in most areas of the field, with scoring opportunities limited at both ends. However, a well-taken goal just before half-time gave Borrisokane a flattering edge on the scoreboard heading into the break, despite the game being otherwise evenly balanced.

Rockvale came out strongly after the interval and were quickly back in the game with a goal and a point early in the second half, narrowing the gap to just three points (1-06 to 1-03). At that stage, momentum seemed to be shifting, and Borrisokane were under real pressure.

However, Borrisokane showed great composure and began to find their shooting boots, pulling away thanks to some clinical finishing. Their greater accuracy in front of goal proved decisive, as they tagged on a series of points before sealing the win with a second goal that ended any hopes of a Rockvale comeback.

Despite Rockvale’s spirited efforts, the game slipped away from them in the final quarter, as Borrisokane closed out the contest in confident fashion.
