Tipperary LGFA Camida Junior C Final

Rockwell Rovers 1-5 (8) – 1-6 (9) Moyle Rovers

Moyle Rovers claimed the Camida Junior C Championship title with a hard-fought one-point win over Rockwell Rovers on Saturday afternoon, edging a dramatic final by 1-6 to 1-5 in blustery conditions. The strong wind at the venue played a major role in shaping the contest, with Moyle making full use of it in the first half before Rockwell rallied impressively when playing with the breeze after the break.

From the throw-in, Moyle Rovers settled quickly and used the wind advantage to pin Rockwell deep in their own half. Kate Moore opened the scoring after just 90 seconds with a well-taken point from play, and moments later Moyle struck for the game’s opening goal at the ten-minute mark to seize early control.

Rockwell Rovers found it difficult to gain territory against the strong headwind, while Moyle kept the scoreboard ticking over. Emer Brennan and Eabha Dolan added further points from play, and Dolan also converted a free as Moyle’s forwards adapted well to the testing conditions. Despite several wides in the closing stages of the half, the blue and white side went in at the break leading 1-4 to 0-0, with Rockwell yet to register a score.

The second half saw a complete turnaround in momentum as Rockwell Rovers, now aided by the wind, came storming back into the game. Ashling Cully finally opened their account five minutes after the restart with a fine point, before Cars Hennessy followed up with another moments later.

The pressure mounted, and in the 42nd minute, Emily McGrath pounced on a loose ball to fire to the net, cutting the deficit to a single point. However, just as Rockwell looked poised to push ahead, Moyle’s Áine Fitzgerald responded with a crucial point from play against the run of play.

Rockwell continued to press, and Hennessy proved pivotal, adding two more points — one from play and one from a free — to leave just one between the sides entering injury time. Another Rockwell free closed the gap to the minimum, but Moyle Rovers held firm in the swirling wind to secure a memorable victory.

It was a game of two halves defined by the elements — Moyle Rovers’ composure in the gale during the first period ultimately providing the platform for their narrow win, despite Rockwell’s spirited second-half comeback.
