Lattin Cullen Emly Edge Silvermines to Claim Junior B County Title in Fethard Thriller
at Fethard Town Park Sat Oct 4th
Lattin Cullen Emly were crowned Tipperary LGFA Camida Junior B County Champions on Thursday evening following a pulsating one-point victory over St. Odhrans Silvermines at Fethard Town Park. In a contest that provided no shortage of drama, determination, and quality football, Lattin Cullen Emly overturned a four-point half-time deficit to emerge deserving winners on a 3-5 to 1-10 (14-13) scoreline.
The North Tipp side made the brighter start, opening the scoring with an early point before Sarah Madden took centre stage. The Silvermines forward converted a penalty in the sixth minute and followed up with a brace of points from play and a free as her side took control of proceedings.
Lattin Cullen Emly, though under pressure, showed their attacking threat when Katie Cunningham struck for a well-taken goal midway through the first half. Further points from Caitlin Byrnes, Kiah Morrissey, and Leah Carew kept them in touch, but Silvermines, with additional scores from Kellie O’Dwyer and Ellen Cunneen, went in at the interval leading 1-7 to 1-3.
The second half brought a complete shift in momentum. Lattin Cullen Emly came out with renewed intensity, and their efforts were rewarded when Katie Cunningham bagged her second goal ten minutes in, quickly adding a point moments later to cut the deficit to the minimum. Ciara Cunningham followed up with another well-taken point as the West Tipp side drew level.
Silvermines refused to fade, with Ellen Cunneen and Kellie O’Dwyer both pointing to nudge them back in front. However, Lattin Cullen Emly’s resilience shone through once again. With just minutes remaining, Caitlin Byrnes found the net for their third goal of the evening — a decisive score that ultimately sealed a memorable victory.
Despite late pressure from Silvermines, Lattin Cullen Emly’s defence stood firm to see out the final moments and secure the county title by the narrowest of margins.
It was a superb team display from Lattin Cullen Emly, with Katie Cunningham outstanding in attack and Caitlin Byrnes clinical in front of goal. For Silvermines, Sarah Madden’s 1-5 contribution was a standout performance on a night when little separated the sides.
