Moycarkey Borris Stage Stunning Comeback to Capture Intermediate County Title
at Golden-Kilfeacle GAA Grounds

Moycarkey Borris 3-8 – 2-8 Ardfinnan

Moycarkey Borris were crowned Tipperary LGFA Camida Intermediate County Champions on Saturday afternoon at Golden-Kilfeacle GAA Grounds, producing a stirring second-half comeback to overcome Ardfinnan in a thrilling and physical contest that went right down to the wire.

Trailing by seven points at the break, Moycarkey Borris showed immense character and composure to turn the tide, striking three goals in a superb second-half display. In a game of fluctuating momentum, two yellow cards for Ardfinnan proved pivotal, coming at key stages when they were under growing pressure, allowing Moycarkey to seize control of the contest.

First Half – Ardfinnan in Command

Ardfinnan began with confidence and intent. Laura Dillon opened the scoring with a free inside the first minute, and less than 90 seconds later, Caoimhe Mulcahy struck the game’s opening goal after a sweeping attack through the middle.

Moycarkey Borris responded through Aoife Shelly, who converted a free, but Ardfinnan were sharper in possession and stronger in the tackle. Dillon added two excellent points from play, while Mulcahy struck again on 27 minutes for her second goal to cap a dominant half.

By the break, Ardfinnan led 2-4 to 0-3, and looked in complete control — their movement, accuracy, and defensive discipline leaving Moycarkey with much to ponder.

Second Half – Yellow Cards Shift the Momentum

The game’s complexion changed dramatically after the interval. Moycarkey emerged with renewed intensity, and Aoife Shelly pointed a free before Emma O’Sullivan fired home a goal to spark their revival. Points from Ciara Shelly and Aoife Shelly quickly followed as Ardfinnan’s earlier fluency began to falter.

Crucially, Ardfinnan lost influential captain Samantha Lambert to a yellow card just four minutes into the half — a ten-minute sin-bin that left them a player down during Moycarkey’s strongest spell. The Mid Tipp side capitalised superbly, outscoring Ardfinnan 1-4 to 0-1 during that period to haul themselves back into contention.

Ardfinnan steadied themselves when Clara English was introduced, and she made an immediate impact with two well-taken points to briefly halt the Moycarkey surge. However, another yellow card, shown to Niamh O’Farrell midway through the half, again reduced Ardfinnan to 14 players — just as they were attempting to regain control.

Moycarkey took full advantage. Frees from Ciara and Aoife Shelly narrowed the deficit, before Sarah Corcoran bundled home from close range to level the game. With Ardfinnan still reorganising after their second sin-bin, Eva Ralph struck a brilliant low finish to the corner of the net in stoppage time to complete the comeback.

Although Ardfinnan landed a late free, it wasn’t enough to deny Moycarkey Borris, who ran out deserving 3-8 to 2-8 winners after a pulsating contest.
