Cahir Claim Senior B Crown After Holding Off Late Commercials Rally
at Fethard Town Park

Cahir 2-10 – 1-9 Commercials

Cahir were crowned Tipperary LGFA Camida Senior B County Champions on Sunday afternoon at Fethard Town Park, overcoming a spirited second-half comeback from Commercials to secure a deserved four-point victory in an entertaining and hard-fought decider.

From the throw-in, Cahir settled quickly and dictated the early exchanges. Aoife Corcoran was sharp in attack, firing two fine points inside three minutes, while Anna Downey added another from a free. Corcoran then struck again to make it three unanswered points before Anna Carey opened Commercials’ account with a well-taken effort from play.

Cahir continued to carry the greater threat going forward, and they struck for the game’s opening goal on ten minutes when Kirsty Downey finished smartly to the net following a flowing team move. Carey replied from a free to steady Commercials, but further scores from Clara Fahey and Emma Buckley kept Cahir in front.

Despite points from Carey and Betty Barlow, Cahir’s attacking movement and pace continued to cause problems, with Corcoran and Buckley again on target before the break. At half time, the South Tipp side were well worth their 1-7 to 0-5 lead.

Commercials came out fighting in the second half, with Carey converting a free before Anna Morris added a fine point from distance to narrow the gap to two. However, just as momentum appeared to be swinging, Cahir reasserted their authority when Shannon Morrissey struck a composed penalty to the bottom corner to make it 2-8 to 0-7.

To their credit, Commercials refused to wilt. Niamh Mackey fired home an excellent goal midway through the half, and with Carey continuing to find the target from placed balls, the gap was down to three entering the final minutes. Substitute Sarah Ryan also raised a late white flag from a free, but Cahir’s composure and defensive discipline ensured there would be no late twist.

Two important late frees from Róisín Howard steadied the ship, and as the final whistle sounded, Cahir celebrated a well-earned Senior B title — their superior finishing and teamwork ultimately proving decisive.
