Tipperary LGFA Amneal U16A Final
Clonmel Commercials power past Templemore to claim U16A crown
The talented Clonmel Commercials U16 side produced a commanding performance to capture the Amneal Tipperary LGFA U16A title, overcoming a determined Templemore outfit on a scoreline of 4-15 to 2-7 at the weekend.
From the opening whistle, the Commercials signalled their intent. Early points from Emma Cullinan and Farrah Madigan set the tone, as their forward line moved the ball with pace and precision. Despite a flurry of early wides, the South Tipp girls built a strong rhythm, with Cullinan’s accuracy from placed balls and Madigan’s sharp finishing stretching their lead.
Templemore found their feet after a slow start, with Lorna Ryan raising the green flag in the 9th minute to bring her side right back into contention. Jennifer Marnell added a series of frees and a fine point from play to keep Templemore in touch, but the Commercials’ attack continued to press. A late goal from Madigan before half-time gave Clonmel a crucial cushion, leading 1-8 to 1-4 at the break.
The second half saw Clonmel shift up another gear. Midfielder Rebecca Hewitt grabbed a decisive goal and a point in quick succession, while Madigan and Cullinan kept the scoreboard ticking. Templemore battled bravely — Marnell and April Bourke working tirelessly to create openings — but the Clonmel defence, marshalled by a solid full-back line, held firm.
As the game entered its final quarter, Clonmel’s attacking depth proved unstoppable. Chloe Keane and substitute Claire Dennehy both found the net, ensuring there was no way back for Templemore despite a late goal from a Brid Delaney free. The Commercials’ composure in possession and clinical finishing saw them pull well clear by the final whistle.
It was an all-round team performance from Clonmel, who combined strong defensive organisation with relentless attacking play. Templemore, to their credit, kept battling until the end and showed flashes of the quality that brought them to the final.
