Tipperary U16B Secure Comprehensive Win Over Waterford in Munster Championship Opener

Tipperary U16B began their Munster Championship campaign in impressive fashion on Friday afternoon, recording a decisive 5-12 to 0-4 victory over Waterford at Fethard Town Park.

The opening stages saw both sides settle into the contest, with Waterford registering the first few opportunities but failing to convert. Tipperary, however, were clinical with their early chances. A well-taken goal from Ella O’Donnell after nine minutes gave the home side the perfect platform, and from there Tipp grew steadily into the game.

Accurate free-taking from Róisín Browne proved a major factor throughout the first half, with the centre-forward converting a series of placed balls to stretch the Tipperary lead. Waterford responded through Chloe Royle, who pointed from play, but found scores difficult to come by despite periods of possession.

Tipperary’s second goal arrived just before the break when Kitty O’Meara found the net following a sustained spell of pressure. By half-time, Tipp had established a commanding 2-7 to 0-2 advantage.

Waterford opened the second-half scoring with a pointed free, but their hopes of a comeback were dealt a blow when Tipperary struck again. Róisín Browne added to her tally with a goal shortly after the restart, and Tipp continued to dictate the pace of the game.

Further scores followed for the home side, including a well-crafted goal finished by Anna Leahy, and a late strike from Emma O’Shea that sealed Tipperary’s fifth major of the afternoon.

To their credit, Waterford continued to battle and added points through Kayla Murphy, but the Tipperary defence remained resolute, limiting clear scoring opportunities.

This strong team performance sees Tipperary begin their U16B campaign with full momentum. Their combination of disciplined defending, sharp attacking movement, and excellent free-taking laid the foundation for a comprehensive and deserved win.
