Kerry 1-7 (10)

Tipperary 2-3 (9)

Kerry claimed a narrow but deserved victory over Tipperary in an entertaining Munster LGFA Minor Championship Round 1 clash that ran the full 65 minutes, with the Kingdom finishing strongly to seal a one-point win.

The contest began at a lively pace and it was Tipperary who struck first inside the opening minute, Grace Hogan pointing from play on 55 seconds. Hogan added another from a free on three minutes as Tipp made the brighter start.

Kerry responded steadily. Sadhbh O’Sullivan opened their account from play on five minutes and, despite a number of early free concessions on both sides, the Kingdom began to find their rhythm. Hogan kept Tipp ticking over, but Kerry’s persistence was rewarded midway through the half.

A fine Kerry move saw Sadhbh O’Sullivan split the posts again, and points from Kelsey Cummins and Tara O’Sullivan helped swing momentum. The game’s first major score arrived on 18 minutes when Sadhbh O’Sullivan finished confidently to the net from play. Tipperary replied almost immediately, Aoibhinn Casey raising a green flag at the other end to leave little between the sides.

Both teams traded further scores before the break, with Kerry adding points from play and Tipp capitalising on frees. At the interval, Kerry held a slender advantage, leading 1-4 to 1-2.

The second half was equally competitive. Kerry extended their lead through O’Sullivan frees and a point from Tara O’Sullivan, but Tipperary refused to fade. Chloe O’Neill struck for a crucial second-half goal on 19 minutes, bringing Tipperary level and setting up a tense final quarter.

Discipline proved important as the game wore on. Yellow cards were issued to Grace Hogan (Tipperary) and Kerry’s Ashlyn Falvey, while both benches were utilised with a number of substitutions as the intensity increased.

Kerry showed composure in the closing stages. Sadhbh O’Sullivan proved influential from placed balls, converting a key free on 22 minutes, while the Kerry defence held firm under late Tipperary pressure. Claire Fitzgerald added a point for Tipp to keep the margin tight, but crucial wides late on proved costly for the visitors.

With the clock ticking towards the 65-minute mark, Kerry managed possession intelligently and saw out the contest to claim a 1-7 to 2-3 victory.

It was a spirited encounter throughout, with both sides showing attacking threat and resilience. Kerry’s ability to convert frees and edge the key moments ultimately proved decisive, but Tipperary will take encouragement from a strong second-half display in what was an excellent championship opener
