Moyle Rovers edge out Arravale to claim U21 crown

Moyle Rovers were crowned TLGFA John Kennedy Motors U21 Division 1 champions after a hard-earned 1-15 to 2-8 victory over Arravale Rovers in a lively and entertaining final on Sunday.

Played at a strong tempo throughout, this decider served up plenty of quality football, with Moyle’s greater spread of scorers ultimately proving decisive, despite a spirited late push from Arravale.

Arravale Rovers finished the opening half the stronger of the two sides and led by 1-4 to 0-5 at the break. After falling behind early to points from Lily O’Donoghue and Aoife Walsh, Arravale gradually worked their way into the game.

The pivotal score of the half came on 22 minutes when full forward Ciara O’Hora struck for goal, a finish that gave Arravale a platform they built on through further points from Sarah Ryan and Eva Cremins. Moyle remained in touch thanks to efforts from Eavann Duffy and Aedin McCormack, but trailed narrowly at the interval.

Moyle Rovers, however, emerged with renewed purpose after the restart and quickly turned the game in their favour. A series of well-taken points, including scores from Hazel Brennan and Éabha Dolan, saw them draw level before edging ahead.

The defining moment arrived midway through the second half when Brennan raised a green flag, a crucial goal that swung momentum firmly in Moyle’s direction. From there, Moyle grew in confidence, adding further points through Duffy, McCormack and influential substitutes Róisín Browne and Saoirse Butler.

Arravale continued to battle and were rewarded late on when O’Hora struck for her second goal of the game to leave just four points between the sides entering the closing stages. However, Moyle showed composure in possession and managed the game well to see out the closing minutes.

O’Hora was a standout performer for Arravale, finishing with 2-3, while Eva Cremins also impressed. For Moyle, Hazel Brennan’s 1-1 was central to their success, with strong contributions throughout from Eavann Duffy and the Moyle Rovers bench.

In the end, Moyle Rovers’ consistency and ability to keep the scoreboard ticking proved the difference as they deservedly secured the U21 title after a well-contested final.
