Magnificent Moycarkey Seal the Double
Moycarkey-Borris 3-8
Boherlahan Dualla 0-8
A magnificent performance by Moycarkey Borris saw them add the Specsavers U16 A Tipperary Ladies Football title to their U16 A Camoige title they secured earlier this year.
In an all mid-Tipp battle Moycarkey held off a strong challenge from their near neighbours Boherlahan-Dualla to emerge the victors in an enthralling encounter hosted in Sean Treacy Park, Tipperary town on Saturday afternoon last October 2nd.
Boherlahan were first off the mark with an Emer Dwan point in the second minute. However Moycarkey replied with a point from Ciara Shelly. Moycarkey dominated much of the play for the first quarter and 0-4 to 0-1 up by the first waterbreak. Moycarkey were unlucky not to have put more daylight between the sides but for the heroism of Caoilinn Casey in goals who pulled off four vital goal saves in that opening quarter. Eventually after that first water break though Mia O’Meara found a past Casey in the goals to put Moycarkey six points to the good in the 19th minute. Boherlahan fought back by the break were trailing by just 1-4 to 0-3.
Boherlahan were in the ascendency and tagged on three unanswered points on the resumption of play. All three coming from the boot of Anna Murphy. Moycarkey were finding it difficult to find their rhythm and hadn’t scored since that 19th minute goal and just a point now separated the sides. Midfielder Sarah Corcoran led the charge first with a point and then minutes later she solod up the field and sent the ball to the back of the net. Taking advantage of a now shell shocked Boherlahan defence Ciara Shelly tightened the score when she also found the back of the net less than a minute later. Moycarkey were now 3-5 to Boherlahans 0-7. There was time on the clock for Boherlahan however Moycarkey’s Molly O’Dwyer played a starring role when she denied an Emer Dwan penalty in the 48th minute. Dwan did however get add a point before the end to wrap up Boherlahan’s scores for the day. Moycarkey tagged on three further points to see out the game and seal a famous victory.
