Strong Cahir side Overcome Hardworking Cappawhite
Cahir 5-10
Cappawhite 3-7
Cahir were crowned U16 B Plate winners when they over came a hard working Cappawhite side on Sunday afternoon last in their Plate Final played in Ballyporeen.
Cahir dominated the opening half and were 4-6 to 1-1 up at the break despite being reduced to fourteen players after Leah Flannery was sinbinned in the 26th minute. Cappawhite had plenty of chances in the half but accumulated seven wides by the brake which was to prove costly in the end. The game was barely live when Cahir’s Siobhan Reidy found the back of the net. Cahir pushed on from there and by the first waterbreak were 2-2 to Cappa’s 0-0. On resumption of play Cahir were first off the mark again and with a Katie O’Connor point followed quickly by two more goals one each from Kate Lonergan and Elsie O’Neill. It wasn’t until the 20th minute that Danielle Ryan finally got Cappa on the score board with a point from a free. The score board now read Cahir 4-3 Cappa 0-1. Cahir continued to tack on points before Cappa earned a penalty which Danielle Ryan duly sent to the back of the net, leaving the half time score at Cahir 4-6 Cappawhite 1-1.
On the resumption Cappawhite still had the numerical advantage and were driving at the Cahir defence and were rewarded for their efforts with a second penalty which again Danielle Ryan sent to the back of the net. Back from the sin bin Leah Flannery was quick to make her mark with a point from a free followed quickly by a goal to put the game beyond doubt and leave Cahir a 5-7 to 2-1 lead. Cappawhite to their credit battled on with points from Danielle Ryan, Shauna Heffernan and Lucy Heffernan and a late third penalty again goaled by Danielle Ryan put a gloss on the score line. Danielle Ryan finishing the game with a personal tally of 3-5.
Cahir were deserving winners overall and were far more efficient in front of the goals. Caoimhe Grace at centre back put in a hard shift, Leah Flannery worked equally hard in midfield and upfront the forwards worked very well as a unit with Elsie O’Neill and Katie O’Connor each scoring 1-3.
