Comprehensive Win For Templemore In Plate Final
Templemore 6-12
Fethard 2-10
Templemore had a comprehensive win as they renewed their rivalry in the Division 1 Plate Final on Tuesday evening last August 31st, in Dr. Morris Park, Thurles.
The sides have met at Under 21 and in the early stages of the league recently and would be very familiar. They were also our Senior B Finalists last year with Fethard winning out on that occasion. However Fethard’s ranks were depleted on this occasion with Niamh Hayes and Lucy Spillane absence most notable. Credit though where credit is due and Templemore were the better of the sides getting off to a dream opening half,
The opening quarting featured six goals in total with emplemore scoring two from Kate Delaney and one each from Kate Cashman and Dani Ryan and Emma Fitzpatrick with Fethard recording one from Kate Davey. Templemore also recorded four points in the quarter leaving the score Templemore 5-4 Fethard 1-0 at the first waterbreak. Fethard though were playing onto a strong wind and despite this came out fighting in the second quarter and notching 0-6 to Templemores 0-2 in those final fifteen minutes of the half. The half time score now reading Templemore 5-6 Fethard 1-6.
It was all to play for the in the second half and Fethard got the restart they needed with a Jess Gleeson in the second minute of the half to put just nine points between the sides. Fethard were on the ascension or it seemed but up stepped second half substitute Shauna Quirke who scored two points in quick succession followed by another from Emma Fitzpatrick to put 12 points back again between the sides. Fethard tried to hard but there was just too much between the sides and a late goal giving Kate Delaney a hattrick sealed the victory for Templemore.
